Woody meadows trials at Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria


The Royal Botanic Gardens, Cranbourne, has been an essential partner in selecting and trialling woody meadow species.


The Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria have been an essential partner in the Woody Meadow research project and helped in the initial selection of species. They also trialled potential species and cultivars in their research garden at Cranborne, subjecting 48 species to coppicing (hard pruning to near ground level) to determine which plants re-sprout - and therefore make good woody meadow candidates. John Arnott, Manager of Horticulture and Warren Worboys, Curator of Horticulture, contributed their significant expertise and oversaw research trials undertaken by University of Melbourne Masters student, and horticultural technician, Ahmed Ashraf.
